Seyed Abazar Shobairi

Seyed Abazar Shobairi is Research Fellow of Material Entanglements in the Ancient Mediterranean and Beyond, based in the Section of Greek and Roman Antiquity, Institute of Historical Research, National Hellenic Research Foundation. He studied Iranian and Near Eastern Archaeology at Islamic Azad University (Marvdasht) and Islamic Azad University (Tehran Central Branch). He pursued doctoral studies in Classical Archaeology at the University of Athens, writing a thesis on "Comparative Investigation of Irrigation Techniques in the Achaemenid Heartland (Fars) and in Greece in the 6th-4th Centuries B.C.E." His studies in Greece were enabled by a fellowship of the A. S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation and the University of Athens (2012-2013) and a grant by the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (2014-2017). He has published articles on landscape archaeology, waterworks and irrigation systems in the Achaemenid heartland, and excavation and survey reports. He has extensive archaeological fieldwork experience in Iran, and served, between 2007 and 2011, as research fellow at the Parsa-Pasargadae Research Foundation at Persepolis. He is especially interested in Greek-Persian interactions.
