Lori Khatchadourian

Lori Khatchadourian is Associate Professor in the Department of Near Eastern Studies at Cornell University. She is the author of Imperial Matter: Ancient Persia and the Archaeology of Empires (2016) and co-editor of Fitful Histories and Unruly Publics: Rethinking Temporality and Community in Eurasian Archaeology (2016). Dr. Khatchadourian has published articles on the archaeology of the Iron Age in the Caucasus, Iran, and eastern Anatolia. Her research on the relationship between imperialism and the material world extends from the ancient past to the modern present. She is currently developing an archaeological and ethnographic project on the ruins of socialism in Armenia, with a particular interest in the afterlife of Soviet industrial sites. Dr. Khatchadourian is co-director of the Project for the Archaeology and Geographic of Ancient Transcaucasian States (Project ArAGATS), co-director of Cornell’s Landscapes and Objects Laboratory, and co-founder and co-director of the Aragats Foundation.
