Katerina Velentza

Katerina Velentza is a classical and maritime archaeologist. She obtained a BA degree in Classical Archaeology from King’s College London (2015) and an MA degree in Maritime Archaeology from the University of Southampton (2016). She is currently a doctoral candidate in Archaeology at the University of Southampton, funded by the A. S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation, the University of Southampton and the Greek Archaeological Committee of the UK. Her doctoral research concerns the transport of freestanding sculptures in the ancient Mediterranean as documented through shipwreck evidence. She has participated in various land and underwater archaeological projects, including the underwater excavation of the University of Southampton at the Ropotamo river on the Black Sea coast and, since 2014, the excavations of the Athenian Agora in Greece, directed by the American School of Classical Studies at Athens.
